Made in Green

Made in Green by OEKO-TEX is a textile traceability label: it guarantees that an article has been tested for harmful substances and made in factories that respect the environment and their workers, then lets you trace where it was produced through a unique ID on its label.

Made in Green in practice

The label assembles two existing Oeko-Tex certifications. The finished product must first pass the Standard 100 tests against substances harmful to the skin. Its production sites must then be STeP certified, the Oeko-Tex framework that audits factories: chemical management, environmental impact, safety and working conditions. Where the classic Oeko-Tex label only looks at the garment, Made in Green also looks at the factory.

Its signature is traceability: every article carries a product ID, often doubled by a QR code, on its label. Entered on the official site oeko-tex.com, it shows in which countries and at which stages the textile was made: garment making, dyeing, finishing. The person wearing the garment can check for themselves, without asking the brand anything. Like the other Oeko-Tex labels, it renews every year.

What Made in Green doesn't say: nothing about the fiber's origin. A labeled article can be conventional cotton or virgin polyester; organic is the territory of GOTS. For merch, it remains rarer than Standard 100 alone on customizable textile catalogs: requiring certification of the factories, not just the product, rules out many references.
