Collecting sizes for a group order without mistakes

Size, cut or colour mix-ups, chasing payments: on the tknp.io Store, free to open, everyone picks and pays for their size, and only what is reserved gets made.

Three BDE La ruche students each wear their own size of their student union's custom clothing: an ecru t-shirt, a black sweatshirt and an ecru hoodie.

Collecting sizes for a group order without mistakes

To collect sizes for a group order without mistakes, stop copying them out yourself: open a pre-order campaign on your tknp.io Store: opening it is free. Everyone picks their garment and size, then pays online; the run is made from the exact reservations and handed out in bags labelled with each person's name.

If you are the one running the order, you know the scene. Sizes come in by text, by email, in passing in the corridor; you copy them into a spreadsheet, then onto the order form. A "women's M" turns into a unisex M, black replaces the ecru someone asked for, three people never replied and two have not paid yet. On handout day, every mistake comes back to you.

Why is a size, cut or colour mistake expensive?

Because a garment with your logo on it cannot be taken back: it is made for you, and our terms of sale rule out any size exchange, except for defects (personalised goods are exempt from the right of withdrawal under Article L221-28 of the French Consumer Code). Fixing a mistake afterwards therefore means a new run, and a direct order with us starts at ten items per model.

One forgotten reply or one wrongly copied cut then leaves two options: reorder ten garments to dress one person, or make them wait for the next run. Our article on minimum order quantities explains where these thresholds come from.

Where do mistakes in a team order come from?

Mistakes happen wherever a choice passes from hand to hand: each time someone copies another person's size, cut or colour, they can get it wrong. When sizes are gathered the usual way, that hand-over happens at every step.

  • Copying out. A size given out loud, jotted on paper, then typed into a spreadsheet goes through three pairs of hands before it reaches the order form.
  • The cut. "An M" does not say whether it is a unisex t-shirt or a fitted women's style, and the two do not size the same way.
  • The colour. When the team can choose between two colours, every extra spreadsheet column is one more chance to get it wrong.
  • Late replies and payments. A size without a payment, a payment without a size, an answer that arrives after the order: you are the one piecing it all together.

The fix is not better copying, it is no copying at all: everyone enters their own choice, once, at the moment they pay.

How does a pre-order work on the tknp.io Store?

You open a pre-order campaign on your Store for 7 to 21 days and share its link: each member picks their own garment and size, then pays online. When the campaign closes, we only make what was reserved, and everyone receives their garment in a bag with their name on it.

  1. You build the campaign. Your logo goes onto branded garments in the designer, from Stanley/Stella or B&C for example, and you set the price your members pay: the screen shows our price and what your organisation earns at each volume tier. Offering a unisex t-shirt and a women's style, or two colours, settles the cut and colour question up front. Still, keep the choice short: each garment in the campaign has its own production threshold, and the more reservations are spread out, the further each garment sits from its own.
  2. Your members reserve. The link goes out in the WhatsApp group, by email or on a QR code displayed at the club. Everyone picks their size and pays online; if you would rather collect the money yourself, the run is invoiced to you. The closing date is everyone's deadline: anything not reserved in time is not made.
  3. We produce. When the campaign closes, each garment that reaches its production threshold goes into production. One that misses it can be made with another technique at the same price; otherwise its reservations are refunded in full.
  4. Everyone gets their own. Garments arrive about three weeks after the close, on a date shown before payment: they are handed to your organisation in a bag labelled with each person's name, or delivered to people's homes if you offer delivery.

To get started, the pre-order page opens your first campaign.

How much does a pre-order cost on tknp.io?

Nothing for your organisation: opening a Store on tknp.io and publishing a pre-order campaign there is free, and you pay nothing upfront and hold no stock. If you choose to collect the money yourself, the run is invoiced to you. Your members pay for their reservation at the price you set, and the difference between that price and our price at the volume reached goes to your organisation, paid by bank transfer after delivery.

The price stays the same for your members however many reservations come in: it is your share that grows with volume. Our pre-order page gives a worked example, priced on 30 September 2026 with online payment fees deducted, for a screen-printed Creator 2.0 tee sold at €19.90 (indicative amounts, subject to change):

ReservationsYour organisation's pot
10about €21
25about €80

A form is still handy for a quick poll before you choose the model. For the order itself, a pre-order removes the copying steps where mistakes creep in.

What size split should you plan without a list?

With a pre-order on tknp.io, none: the run follows the reservations, size by size. The question only comes up when you cannot ask anyone, for example event volunteers whose list does not exist yet; in that case, centre the order on M and L and order only a few of the smallest and largest sizes.

The benchmarks published by clothing sellers contradict each other anyway. The GoalUniform website recommends 45% M when nothing is known about the group; T-Shirt Lovers published its 2025 figures, drawn from its own sales and those of Maudlin Merchandise, in which M accounts for 23% of the total, with 28% of those sales in sizes it does not break down. The only common ground: M and L come first in both.

What to check, even with a pre-order

A pre-order removes copying mistakes, not choice mistakes: everyone still has to pick the right size of the right model. Three instructions in the message that comes with the link are enough to limit that risk.

  • Your usual size is not enough. An M from a high-street brand is not the M of the model on offer: the Stanley/Stella Creator 2.0, for example, is a unisex t-shirt with a medium fit, available from XXS to 5XL. When the brand publishes a size chart in centimetres, point people to it.
  • Name the cuts. Write "unisex t-shirt" and "fitted women's t-shirt", not just "t-shirt".
  • Oversized means your usual size. The roominess comes from the pattern, not from going up a size; our guide to cuts shows the difference.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What free tool can you use to collect a team's sizes?

The tknp.io Store: opening a Store and running a pre-order campaign is free. Each member picks their own size and pays online, and only the quantity reserved is made.

Can you exchange a custom t-shirt ordered in the wrong size?

No: a garment with your logo on it is made to order. French law excludes it from the right of withdrawal (Article L221-28 of the Consumer Code), and the tknp.io terms of sale state that sizes are not exchanged. Only a faulty garment is replaced or refunded, reported within 30 days of delivery.

Do you need to pay anything upfront for a pre-order on tknp.io?

No. On the tknp.io Store, your members pay for their reservation, and only the quantity reserved is produced after the close: you buy no stock.

What happens if a garment in a tknp.io pre-order misses its threshold?

On tknp.io, each garment in a campaign has its own production threshold. If it misses it, it can be made with another marking technique at the same price, DTF printing or embroidery; otherwise its reservations are refunded in full within 7 days of the close.

How long does a pre-order campaign last on tknp.io?

From 7 to 21 days, a length set in advance and shown on the campaign page. The garments then arrive about three weeks after the campaign closes, on a date given before payment.
