The brim

Its width and drop define the whole look: a short, upturned brim reads sporty, a wide, falling brim reads outdoors. It is stitched with several rows of circular topstitching that stiffen it — the hat's only structure.

A soft crown

Unlike a cap, there is no backing in the crown: it is round, soft, and flattens the moment you set it down. No raised embroidery can hold there, and a large applied graphic distorts as soon as the hat is worn.

Head size

Bucket hats more often come in two sizes than one-size, because they have no rear adjuster. For wide distribution, check whether the model offers an internal drawcord, which absorbs the difference.

Which marking technique for custom bucket hats?

On a bucket hat, the stable area is the brim, held taut by its topstitching: that is where a short embroidered line belongs, at the front or the side. On the crown, stay small and flat, or use a sewn woven label. The 3D relief of caps is out of reach here, for want of a rigid front to support it.
