Two or three layers

A three-layer softshell bonds a stretch woven face, a membrane and a micro-fleece backer: warm, windproof, made for the field. A two-layer version drops the membrane and turns lighter and more breathable, better suited to intense activity. Layer count is the first criterion, ahead of cut.

Water-repellent is not waterproof

The DWR finish beads off a shower for a few minutes; it does not replace a rain jacket and weakens with washing. Say so plainly to your teams: a softshell covers wind and drizzle, not a day in the rain.

Mechanical stretch

A softshell's woven face stretches, unlike a windbreaker's. A rigid, wide mark placed where the fabric works will eventually lift at the corners. A compact chest logo stays in a stable zone.

Which marking technique for custom softshells?

Embroidery on softshell holds very well and remains the workwear standard, with one caveat: it pierces the membrane, creating micro entry points for water. On a three-layer jacket meant for outdoor use, keep marking on the chest and shoulder, never on areas facing driving rain. For a multicolour logo, transfer bonds where direct ink slides off the repellent finish.
