Which marking technique for custom kidswear?

On a child's piece, favour soft techniques: direct printing or a fine transfer, which follow the fabric without stiffening it. Keep embroidery for pieces worn over the top — sweatshirt, dungarees, jacket — where the back of the stitch never touches skin. And keep the mark small: a bodysuit is short, and an adult graphic transposed as-is runs from hem to hem.

Sizing runs by age

A children's range is not broken down into S, M and L but into months, then years, and two children of the same age are rarely the same size. Trust the measurements in centimetres given for the model rather than the age on the label, especially in the smallest sizes, where the gap is widest.

Cords and fastenings

EN 14682 governs cords and drawstrings on children's clothing: no drawstring at the hood on the smallest sizes. That is why a child's hoodie often has a plain hood where the adult version carries a cord. On a bodysuit, the envelope neckline — two overlapping shoulders — lets the head through, and the crotch poppers open one-handed, which matters at changing time.

Skin before graphics

On a child, a mark is felt before it is seen. A soft print with no stiff handle can be worn against the skin; dense embroidery leaves a bed of thread on the reverse that scratches, and then needs a backing on the inside.
